Oh. My. Goodness...
This semester so far has just been crazy!
I was a commuter last year and this year I decided to live on campus. I'm living in the nicest dorms. I get my own room and share the thing with three other girls, two of whom are my good friends now. It's a really different and crazy experience, but I like it so far. My roommates and I all get along for the most part (the only difficulty being the three of us liking it cooler in the room and the other insisting on turning it on heat while it's 102 degrees out..) and the food at the school food court isn't nearly as awful as I'd thought.
My classes are going okay so far. I was taking a math course but I ended up dropping out because it was just too difficult for me and my swing dance class was cancelled because not enough people signed up. I went from having 17.5 hours to having 12.5 hours. Which, to be honest, is a good load right now while I figure some things out. I bombed my first round of exams. It was a learning experience and now I know what NOT to do for next time and how to manage my time correctly.
Sometimes you just have to crash and burn before you get it right.
I'm making friends at a much faster rate now that I live on campus. It's really weird. Basically when you're around each other ALL the time and have a lot of time to kill, you go out together, eat together, chill together, go to the gym together, walk to class together. It's so interesting to me how quickly you can become close to someone in such a short amount of time. I'm really happy though and I'm not nearly as depressed as I was last year. I feel like this can be a really good year for me and I can't wait to see what else this year will bring!
I thought that I was going to severely miss home and really feel far away from everybody but I honestly have adapted REALLY well. I got that sick, not wanting to leave feeling in the weeks coming before I moved out, but now that I'm here, I'm so busy all the time and surrounded by my sorority sisters and my friends and roommates who are all so amazing that I really just feel comfortable here. I feel like it's a place that I really belong.
Eta Iota Sigma (my sorority) has been going amazing also. I'm going to be a Big this semester! (A big is someone who kind of 'mentors' a new member. They're like their official big sister in the sorority. Everybody has a big.) Best of all, I get two! I get two littles! (littles being the new member whom you are going to be a big sister to). I get twinsss! I'm SO excited! They're my age, but that's okay. We have a neon party this Friday, then big/little week starts on Tuesday and runs until the following Tuesday which is when you do the big/little reveal and you finally meet your big/little(s). Throughout the week though, (if you're a big) you leave a gift at their dorm door every night. :] After big/little week we have victory which is a formal to celebrate the new members officially being a part of the sorority. After that, I have Dad's weekend which is on the 30/31st of October. There's so much stuff going on right now!
I was in Hall Council which is where Residents living on campus can be a part of a council that talks about changes they'd like to see in the dorms or for people living on campus. I think I'm definitely going to have to drop it though. It's not even that I don't have the time for it, I just feel like I'll get overwhelmed.
I was thinking about studying abroad this summer to go to Arles, France in order to get 6 hours for my French major and also just have the extra experience and become more fluent, but I just don't see that happening, but it's something I'm seriously considering.
On that note, I'm thinking about changing my major to just strictly French with no double major in international comm: strategic communications. If I stick to my French major, I'll DEFINITELY graduate in four years. If I don't, I'll be here for five, maybe longer. So I think doing a French major with some sort of minor will be good. I just have to figure some things out. I just want to give myself some breathing room in terms of occupation after graduation. I don't want to be stuck to one thing, so choosing a very vague minor would be a good idea.
Ugh! I feel like I've talked forever and ever already about what's going on but I just haven't updated in so long! I'm trying to see if I can do some photo stuff soon whenever I get some time. Not sure when that will be, but hopefully soon!
Hope everyone is doing well!
